To commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society has embarked on a four year project to research and chronicle Duxbury’s involvement in the Civil War.
Using primary sources in the Drew Archival Library, and other publications and databases, we will take explore the experiences of men and women from Duxbury at the battle front as well as life at home in Duxbury during the war. Patrick Browne, Executive Director, will write about the broader historical context of the war and the actions of the units in which Duxbury men served. Carolyn Ravenscroft, Archivist of the Drew Archival Library, will research the biographies of individuals who participated in the war and share information on our archival sources. Erin McGough, our Collections Manager, will describe actual Civil War artifacts in the Society’s collection.
Do you have any stories or objects about Duxbury residents in the Civil War? We would love to hear from you.
